This castle is home to some of the most incredible stories and this one is top of the list for me! Maybe not many people realise that Dover Castle, the key to England, was sieged by the French in 1216-17.🗝️

It was a fascinating story to learn about and to plot across such a unique space like the Georgian casemates. The team at English Heritage and @matherandco_ltd, did a great job at creating a space that is atmospheric, engaging and educational.

Now, visitors can learn about the siege and imagine themselves as the fearful and brave soldiers who protected their land as the walls fell down and their enemies ran in, swords a swinging. ⚔️

Definitely worth a visit if I do say so myself...

Way back in 2024, Dover Castle's latest installation was opened to the public. It was my pleasure to work the team at English Heritage and the team at @matherandco_ltd
to develop a visitor narrative that captured one of the most dramatic times in the castle's history.

I worked with the Historians at English Heritage to develop the story in an engaging and accessible way for visitors. I also worked closely with the designers to ensure the story inspired the design - embracing our love for history, bard music and sword fights in the process. ⚔️

One of the challenges of working in castles is the make sure the chronology is clear in a place that has thousands of history within its walls. I think we achieved it here and had a lot of fun doing so!

When you walk along the River Ness, you'll come across the Hydro Ness and our interpretation panels. You can learn all about renewable energy, the science behind the hydro and about ways you can help save the environment.

We wrote with the community in mind, aiming to be encouraging and positive as we approach these hard hitting topics.

Based alongside the river, you can see the environment as you read about the plants and animals! (And if you visit in the evening, you might even see some bats!)

The interpretation also includes Scots Gaelic, and will soon include even more! Something I was extremely passionate about representing and look forward to including more in our Scotland projects.

It's about time I updated this account with my latest portfolio work. At the beginning of October, I got to visit our work beside the River Ness.

It was great to work alongside the brilliant team at @matherandco_ltd to produce the interpretation for the Ness Hydro. It's a new hydro mechanism using the flow of the River Ness to produce energy for the local leisure centre.

Our client for this project was the Highland Council who wanted to produce a space where visitors, particularly younger audiences, could learn more about sustainability and creating energy using the power of nature. My role on the job was lead content developer with the Client, and writing support alongside my colleague. The 3D design and graphic styling was also produced by the incredible team at Mather & Co.

This was a great job with a positive message! I can only hope it reaches the community and encourages that we all embrace a sustainable lifestyle. ♻️💧

'At Home with the Pankhurst Family' Exhibition ~ The Pankhurst Centre ~ 2021

Visitors of the Pankhurst Centre often talk about the 'tingle' they get when they see the room. The Parlour Room is believed to be where the first meeting of the WSPU aka the Suffragettes took place. So it was an honour for us to be able to make our own interpretation of it.

These illustrated box are designed to appear as though they are normal domestic objects until its revealed how they were used in protest.

Overall, we wanted our visitors to learn more about the women of the movement but also about themselves as activist - to think about what they would have done then and what they could do now to help the women's rights movement. To consider what they would do for something they were passionate about!

On a personal note, this project has inspired me to do more for women's rights. We are so pleased what we have managed to achieve and we truly hope it helps the museum moving forward!

The exhibition looks at the family behind the Votes for Women movement. Starting with the city Emmeline was born in and its influence on politics through to their life after the movement won women the vote.

This particular room includes a two side audio visual show which places the visitor in the middle of a protest with both sides arguing against one another. This post has been a long time coming! I have been so excited to share this project.
Mather & Co were proud to be selected to do this work, being a team with strong female presence. When I put on to do this project it honestly felt so natural to me to create such an exhibition.

Three rooms with three messages. We wanted to break the boundaries of this sweet domestic museum, to make it the rebellious active space it needed to be.

We took the concept of 'conventional Edwardian home' and flipped it to reflect the unconventional ways this family became history makers.
In this room, the walls are inspired by the chalking women did to spread their message to the people while the boxed furniture were a fun DIY way of representing a home that was always changing and was more than just a domestic setting.
It's meant to challenge and surprise you.

The installation sits in the reception of the hospital, which currently is not open to the public.

It may be that staff, patients and the general public don't know that this is the home of the Paralympics. This was also the place where Guttmann was pioneering in changing the perceptions and treatment of people with Spinal injuries.

It was great to be able to tell these stories where this all started! And to see the hospital as it is now and all the amazing people there.
It was also really lovely to chat with staff and patients there and hear their stories whilst I was working.

The 'Light in the Darkness' Exhibition ~ National Coal Mining Museum ~ 2020

Based in the second space is the evolution wall, where we wanted to present a chronological display of a large number of lamps held by the museum. We were really pleased to how well this turned out!

Finally, what felt like a really important part of the story was to hear from people that were saved by a lamp along with the people who experienced the lamps in different ways. It was important to emphasise just how valuable the lamp was and is, while also painting how it became the symbol we know today. But from the miners mouth!

When I visited the open exhibition, one of the ex-miners who worked there told us about his experience of the lamp. And when learning I had worked on the exhibition, allowed me to get a photo with his lamp which he had lit to demonstrate how it works. It was such a lovely gesture and the cherry on top of my experience working on the exhibition. I had worked hard to represent the community and their appreciation for the lamp, only to finally be able to hold a lit lamp in the end!

Being able to see the profiles of so many trustly incredible athletes makes this exhibition so exciting!

It is great to be able tell the stories of so many inspiring people!

Being able to see the profiles of so many trustly incredible athletes makes this exhibition so exciting!

As my first project I will take on at Mather and co., it is an absolute honour to be able to transport this incredible exhibition to its next two homes.

The paralympian exhibition looks at how and where the competition took place. As well as celebrate the achievements of various paralympian both nationally and locally.

I have really enjoyed this experience, and the opportunity not only taught me alot about exhibition design, but also about Hull and it's traumatic and powerful history.

I am from a small seaside town called Bridlington, and Hull was place my friends and I visited for shopping. I never really knew about it's fishing heritage and the life saving fights the people of Hessle road achieved.

On the 2nd of February, an exhibition I was assisting with opened in Hull Minster.
During the campaign project, I managed the @hessleroadstamps Instagram account, and helped designing by producing volumetrics to organise the space. Finally, at the build and opening I helped to build the space and record the process.
Now the exhibition is open until the 17th of March, and I am incredibly proud to have been a part of the process. Here are some of the images taken of the arrangement to give you a taste of what was created.

As I sat in the audience, I saw people taking photos before the talks had even started. The audience is the most important client to sell to every time. If they enjoy the design, it makes their experience even better. So as I saw the photos being posted online, and heard people commenting on my work, I knew I had done right. Nothing could have made me prouder and happier in that moment.
Now, as I reminisce over my experience with @tedxbrayfordpl, I am beginning to try move forward career. I plan to be announcing my website soon, as well as looking for new projects to work on. Can't wait!
